How to resize PDF pages online

PaperKit changes the page size of every page in a PDF. Choose A4, US Letter, or Square, or type a custom width × height in points, then click Resize PDF. The tool runs locally and the resized file downloads without an upload.

Common PDF page sizes in points

PDF measures pages in points, with 72 points to the inch. A4 is 595 × 842, US Letter is 612 × 792, US Legal is 612 × 1008, A5 is 420 × 595, and a 4 × 6 inch photo or shipping label is 288 × 432. PaperKit offers A4, Letter, and Square (600 × 600) as one-click presets and accepts any other size as width x height.

Convert a PDF from Letter to A4, or A4 to Letter

The most common reason to resize is printing a document made in one region on paper from another. A4 is 17 points (about 6 mm) narrower and 50 points (about 18 mm) taller than Letter. Pick the target preset and every page is set to that size so the printer no longer has to scale or shift it.

What resizing does to the page content

Resizing changes the page box, not the drawing on it. Content keeps its original size and stays anchored to the bottom-left corner, so shrinking a page can clip the top and right edges, while enlarging a page adds white space there. If you want to trim margins rather than change the sheet size, use Crop PDF instead.

Custom sizes for labels, slides, and phone screens

Type a custom size as width x height in points, such as 600x900. For inches multiply by 72, so a 5 × 7 inch card is 360x504. This is handy for making a single page match a label printer, a slide deck, or a mobile-friendly reading size.

Resize PDF is not the same as compress PDF

Many searches for "resize PDF" actually want a smaller file in megabytes. Page size has almost no effect on file size, so if your goal is to get under an upload limit, use Compress PDF, which re-encodes images and strips metadata locally in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize a PDF to A4 online for free?

Drop the PDF on PaperKit Resize PDF, choose the A4 preset, and click Resize PDF. Every page is set to 595 × 842 points and the file downloads without leaving your browser.

Does resizing a PDF scale the content?

No. The page box changes but the content keeps its size and position from the bottom-left corner. Shrinking can clip the top and right edges, and enlarging adds white space, so check the preview before you download.

Can I enter a custom page size?

Yes. Type width x height in points, for example 600x900. One inch is 72 points, so a 4 × 6 inch label is 288x432 and a 5 × 7 inch card is 360x504.

Will resizing make my PDF file smaller?

Not noticeably. Page dimensions have almost no effect on file size. To reduce megabytes, use Compress PDF, which re-encodes images and removes metadata.

Is my PDF uploaded when I resize it?

No. PaperKit resizes the pages with pdf-lib inside your browser tab, so the document is never sent to a server.
